  Not for sale in: The U.S. Why? The process of fermentation Cheese is always a good choice, right? The U.S. says you can, though. Casu Marzu cheese is illegal in the U.S., but people all around the world love the firm pecorino cheese outer layer and the soft, creamy middle. You might not know this, but the cheese has to go through a special fermenting procedure to obtain this texture.  

This fermentation procedure actually involves fly larvae (maggots) releasing a specific liquid that makes the cheese inside softer. Because of this, the U.S. has decided not to sell cheese with maggots in it.
