Japanese Life Rules That Might Seem Foreign To Visitors

Customs Surrounding Chopsticks

Chopsticks are a big part of Japanese culture, therefore there are a few things that tourists should remember when they're in Japan. Chopsticks, for instance, are primarily used for eating, thus using them for anything else is not acceptable. It's rude to wave chopsticks in the air or point with them. When you're done eating, there is also a precise way they should be put down.

When someone is done eating in Japan, they should put their chopsticks right next to each other on top of the dish. You should never put them on the table or cross them.
