The Oldest Tree to The East of Mississippi Is Menacing

This well-known and very old oak tree lies on the east side of the Mississippi River and is thought to be between 400 and 500 years old. It's hard to tell how big the tree is just by looking at this photo, but the Angel Oak is 65 feet tall and 25 feet wide. Its leaves cover a total of 17,000 square feet of shade!

How did the tree earn its name? The tree is named for Justus and Martha Angel, who owned the land where it stands in the early 1700s.
