In the US, it's very typical to ask for a doggy bag to carry home any meal you didn't finish. You shouldn't leave food at the restaurant if you paid for it, because sometimes you just can't eat your complete meal. You can take it home and eat it later as a snack. But this isn't really typical in a lot of nations outside of the US.
