Unique Ramadan Traditions From Across the World

Ramadan Is a Family Affair in Chechnya

More than 90% of Chechens are Muslims, so Ramadan is a very important holiday for the country. Even though they follow the same rules and guidelines as the rest of the world, Ramadan is definitely a family affair in Chechnya. Muslims even involve their dead relatives in these Ramadan traditions. For example, on the first day of Ramadan, Muslims in Chechnya go to their relatives' graves to pay their respects.

People will also celebrate newborns born during the holy month of Ramadan more than usual. Girls born during Ramadan will be named "Marha," and males will be called "Ramadan."
