Unique Ramadan Traditions From Across the World

Family Is Everything in Kazakhstan

For Muslims in Kazakhstan, Ramadan is a time to honor their traditions and spend time with their families. Because of this, expats who have moved away from the country come back for the whole month to be with their loved ones. If they live close by, they'll also go to the Hazrat Sultan Mosque for Iftar parties. These parties are full of Ramadan foods and are huge events that draw 10,000 worshippers every night.

At these celebrations, people usually eat mutton with rice and almonds and drink horse or camel milk. The president of Kazakhstan also comes to these festivities.
